Søholm Stentøj

Søholm was founded in 1835 in Rønne on the Danish island of Bornholm by Herman Sonne Wolffsen and Edvard Christian Sonne, making it one of Bornholm’s longest-running ceramic manufacturers. Its production developed from traditional faience and utilitarian pottery into a broad range of decorative ceramics and stoneware.

During the post-war decades, Søholm became particularly associated with expressive stoneware characterised by tactile surfaces, rich glazes and distinctly Scandinavian forms. The factory worked with numerous ceramic artists and designers, including Einar Johansen, Noomi Backhausen and Maria Philippi.

Søholm remained active until 1996, leaving behind an extensive body of work that reflects Bornholm’s important role in the history of Danish ceramics.
