A beautifully proportioned Model 3041 ceramic table lamp produced by Søholm Stentøj in Denmark during the 1960s. Combining a sculptural silhouette with contrasting ceramic finishes, the lamp is a characteristic example of Danish mid-century lighting, where carefully considered forms and decorative surface treatments come together in a harmonious design.
The ceramic base features a rounded, gently flattened lower section that transitions into a tall, elegantly tapered neck. Its distinctive appearance is defined by the contrast between the natural, unglazed stoneware of the upper section and the richly glazed lower body. The neck has a warm, earthy beige tone with a subtle granular texture, emphasising the natural character of the clay. Below, the rounded base is decorated with horizontal bands of deep blue, charcoal and muted grey glazes, creating a layered composition with subtle variations in colour and texture.
A decorative relief band encircles the upper part of the glazed section, introducing an additional element of detail without disturbing the simplicity of the overall form. The interplay between the matte, unglazed surface and the glossy, richly coloured glaze gives the lamp a particularly tactile quality, characteristic of Scandinavian studio ceramics from the period.
Søholm Stentøj was established in 1835 on the Danish island of Bornholm and became one of the country’s recognised ceramic manufacturers. During the mid-twentieth century, the company produced a wide variety of decorative stoneware and lighting, frequently exploring combinations of natural clay surfaces, experimental glazes and geometric decoration. The Model 3041 reflects this approach, balancing the expressive possibilities of ceramic materials with a restrained, functional design.
The lamp has been fitted with a new, softly tapered fabric shade featuring a gently scalloped lower edge. Its light colour complements the earthy tones of the ceramic base, while the subtle undulating detail adds a decorative softness to the otherwise clean silhouette.
With its balanced proportions, rich material contrasts and understated elegance, this lamp is a versatile example of Danish ceramic lighting, equally suited to a side table, console or bedside setting.
The perfect fit to complete your interior.
