An elegant pair of Model 1200 ‘Corona’ armchairs designed by Lennart Bender for Ulferts in Sweden during the 1960s. Characterised by their generous proportions, sculptural silhouettes and distinctive construction, these chairs are beautiful examples of Scandinavian mid-century furniture design.
The design is particularly interesting for its unusual double-shell construction. Two separate upholstered shells form the body of each chair: the outer shell defines the architectural silhouette, while the softly contoured inner shell provides a comfortable and supportive seating surface. The subtle separation between these elements remains visible along the upper edges and armrests, emphasising the layered construction and creating a distinctive, enveloping form.
The upholstered bodies rest on beautifully crafted teak frames, featuring straight legs connected by horizontal stretchers. Their warm reddish-brown tones contrast with the light upholstery, while the open construction introduces visual lightness.
Both chairs have been professionally reupholstered in a premium wool-blend chenille by Kieffer / Rubelli. The richly textured, off-white fabric complements the sculptural forms while preserving the distinctive contours and original character of the design.
