Lennart Bender was a Swedish designer whose work bridged furniture design and industrial design. Active throughout the post-war decades, he collaborated with a number of leading international companies, including Electrolux, Ericsson, and Sony, while also teaching industrial design at Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm.
Bender’s furniture designs are characterised by clean lines, thoughtful ergonomics, and a strong emphasis on functionality. Whether designing lounge chairs, storage furniture, or seating systems, he consistently sought to combine comfort with visual clarity. His work for Ulferts during the 1960s remains particularly admired, reflecting the understated elegance and practicality that define the best of Swedish modern design.
Today, Bender’s designs are increasingly appreciated by collectors for their sculptural simplicity, craftsmanship, and enduring relevance within the Scandinavian modern movement.
