Tecno
Tecno is an Italian furniture manufacturer founded in 1953 in Meda, Italy, by brothers Osvaldo, Fulgenzio, and Ermanno Borsani. From its inception, Tecno positioned itself at the forefront of modern furniture design by combining advanced industrial production with architectural thinking and technical innovation. The company became one of the most influential figures in postwar Italian design, particularly in the fields of office systems and high-end residential furniture.
A defining aspect of Tecno’s identity is its close collaboration with leading designers and architects. The most significant partnership was with Osvaldo Borsani, whose work merged elegant form with mechanical and structural ingenuity. His most iconic design for Tecno is the P40 adjustable lounge chair (1955), a highly engineered piece with multiple moving components that allow the chair to adapt to different seating and reclining positions. The P40 is widely regarded as a masterpiece of 20th-century design.
Tecno is also renowned for its pioneering role in office furniture and modular systems. In the 1960s, the company developed the Graphis office system, designed by Eugenio Gerli, which revolutionized workplace environments through modular panels, integrated storage, and flexible configurations. This systems-based approach influenced office design internationally and positioned Tecno as a leader in functional, large-scale interior solutions.
Tecno’s furniture is characterized by the use of innovative materials, precision engineering, and a refined, architectural aesthetic. Aluminum, steel, glass, and high-quality upholstery are combined with advanced manufacturing techniques to create durable, adaptable products.
