Holmegaard is one of Denmark’s most historic and influential design brands, founded in 1825 by Countess Henriette Danneskiold-Samsøe in the town of Holmegaard. Originally established as a glassworks manufacturer, the company quickly became a pioneer in Scandinavian glass production, earning international acclaim for its exceptional craftsmanship, refined aesthetics, and innovative approach to functional design.
Over the course of the 20th century, Holmegaard evolved into a leading name in Danish modernism, producing not only fine glassware and decorative objects, but also a celebrated range of lighting designs. The company collaborated with many of Denmark’s most prominent designers and artists, including Per Lütken, Michael Bang, and Jacob E. Bang, whose work helped define the minimalist elegance associated with Scandinavian design. Holmegaard lighting became especially known for its softly diffused illumination, sculptural silhouettes, and expertly crafted glass shades that balanced beauty with practicality.
Drawing on traditional glassblowing techniques while embracing modern production methods, Holmegaard created pendant lamps, table lamps, and ceiling fixtures that reflected the clean lines, organic forms, and understated sophistication of mid-century Danish interiors.
