Getama

Getama was founded in 1899 in the small Danish town of Gedsted as Gedsted Tang- og Madrasfabrik, initially producing mattresses filled with seaweed harvested from the nearby Limfjord. The company expanded into furniture production in 1910 and gradually developed into an important name in Danish furniture manufacturing.

In 1949, Getama began its influential collaboration with Hans J. Wegner, whose designs helped establish the company internationally. Getama’s extensive experience with mattresses, upholstery and comfort complemented Wegner’s exceptional understanding of wood, construction and proportion. Their long collaboration resulted in numerous chairs, sofas and daybeds that became enduring examples of Danish modern design. The company officially adopted the shortened name Getama in 1953.
