Illum Wikkelsø

Illum Wikkelsø (1919–1999) was a Danish furniture designer known for his soft, organic approach to Scandinavian modern design. Trained as a cabinetmaker and later educated at the Copenhagen School of Arts and Crafts, Wikkelsø combined traditional craftsmanship with modern comfort and elegant simplicity.

He became especially known for his lounge chairs and sofas, which featured sculptural shapes, flowing lines, and high-quality natural materials such as teak, rosewood, and leather. One of his most famous designs is the V11 lounge chair, celebrated for its inviting form and refined proportions.

Wikkelsø’s work reflects the warmth and functionality that define Danish modernism, balancing comfort with timeless design. Today, his furniture remains highly valued by collectors and enthusiasts of mid-century Scandinavian design.
