Folke Jansson

Folke Jansson (1917–1984) was a Swedish designer whose work helped define the softer, more organic side of Scandinavian modernism. Unlike many of his contemporaries, Jansson’s background extended beyond furniture design to include painting, sculpture, and ceramics, influences that can often be seen in the sculptural quality of his furniture.

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, he collaborated closely with Swedish manufacturer Wincrantz, creating a series of lounge chairs and seating designs distinguished by their flowing forms, generous proportions, and exceptional comfort. While less widely known internationally than some of his Danish contemporaries, Jansson’s work has become increasingly sought after for its individuality, craftsmanship, and timeless appeal.

Today, his designs are regarded as important examples of Swedish mid-century furniture, valued for their ability to combine artistic expression with everyday functionality.
