Ernst Henriksen

Ernst Henriksen was a Danish designer and sculptor whose work belongs to the Scandinavian Modern movement of the mid-20th century. He is particularly known for his distinctive table lamps, produced mainly during the 1950s and 1960s. His designs combine the warmth and natural beauty of teak with simple, sculptural forms, creating lamps that function as both sources of light and decorative objects.

Henriksen’s lamps often feature turned or carved teak bases, with organic, tapered and sometimes biomorphic shapes. Some models combine the wooden body with brass elements, giving the pieces a subtle contrast between warm wood and polished metal. His designs are characteristic of the Danish approach to modernism: restrained, functional and elegant, while allowing the natural qualities of the material to remain central.

Several of Henriksen’s lamps are signed or marked “Ernst Henriksen” and “Made in Denmark.” Examples include sculptural teak table lamps, biomorphic teak lamps and taller teak-and-brass models from the 1960s.
