This very rare, large table lamp by Ingo Maurer is an exceptional example of late 1960s German modernist lighting design. Designed in 1968 and produced during the same period, the lamp reflects Maurer’s early exploration of sculptural minimalism and refined industrial aesthetics. The architectural base, executed in folded metal with a rich untouched patina, gives the piece a strong geometric presence while preserving the authenticity and character developed over decades of age.
The lamp has been intentionally left unrestored, allowing the original surface and the metal’s natural aging to remain fully visible. This beautifully preserved patina enhances the depth and atmosphere of the design, emphasizing the timeless quality that defines Maurer’s early work.
A newly made raw silk lampshade complements the dark metallic structure with subtle texture and warmth. The soft, natural fabric creates a refined contrast against the geometric form of the base, diffusing the light into an intimate and elegant glow.
Both sculptural and functional, this rare lamp stands as an important collector’s piece from one of Germany’s most influential lighting designers. The model is documented in Ingo Maurer by Bernhard Dessecker, page 181, further confirming its historical significance and rarity.
