A refined table lamp designed by Kai Klinge for Oreby Keramik in Denmark during the 1970s. Characterised by its architectural silhouette and understated surface treatment, the lamp is a beautiful example of Danish ceramic design from the period, combining geometric simplicity with the natural qualities of glazed stoneware.
The base features a tall cylindrical body with a subtly textured surface, finished in a deep, earthy brown glaze with variations in tone. Its restrained shape is complemented by a series of carefully defined transitions towards the top, where a gently projecting shoulder leads into a narrower, stepped neck. These architectural details introduce a sense of rhythm to the otherwise minimal form, while the slightly irregular glaze gives the ceramic a warm, tactile appearance.
Kai Klinge’s ceramic designs for Oreby Keramik reflect the Danish tradition of combining functional objects with a strong emphasis on material and craftsmanship. Rather than relying on elaborate ornamentation, the design achieves its character through carefully considered proportions, subtle surface variations and the relationship between simple geometric elements. The result is an object that feels both sculptural and quietly sophisticated.
The lamp has been fitted with a new, generously proportioned conical fabric shade, which creates an elegant contrast with the dark ceramic base. Its wide silhouette balances the slender cylindrical body, while the light-coloured fabric softens the overall composition.
With its timeless appearance and understated character, this lamp is particularly well suited to interiors that appreciate natural materials, sculptural forms and the enduring qualities of Scandinavian design.
The perfect fit to complete your interior.
