Guzzini is an Italian manufacturer founded in 1912 in Recanati, Italy, originally as a small workshop producing horn objects. Over the course of the 20th century, the company transformed itself into one of Italy’s most influential producers of design-led household goods, becoming especially known for its innovative use of plastic materials combined with refined industrial design.
From the postwar period onward, Guzzini embraced new production technologies and materials such as acrylics and thermoplastics, positioning itself at the forefront of modern Italian design. The company collaborated with many prominent designers, including Ettore Sottsass, Paolo Tilche, Enzo Mari, Rodolfo Bonetto, and Luigi Massoni. These collaborations resulted in objects that combined bold color, sculptural form, and everyday functionality.
Guzzini’s product range has included tableware, lighting, kitchen accessories, and home décor, often characterized by organic shapes, transparency, and expressive surfaces. Iconic designs such as Sottsass’s plastic tableware, Massoni’s lighting designs, and Guzzini’s molded serving bowls and containers helped redefine plastic as a material suitable for high-quality design rather than disposable use.
By uniting technological innovation, accessibility, and aesthetic experimentation, Guzzini played a key role in the international success of Italian design in the second half of the 20th century.
