Dux

Dux is a Swedish furniture manufacturer founded in 1926 in Malmö by Efraim Ljung, originally as a producer of mattresses and bedding. From the outset, the company focused on improving sleep comfort through research, innovation, and high-quality materials. This scientific approach to comfort would become a defining characteristic of the Dux brand.

During the mid-20th century, Dux expanded its range to include upholstered furniture, particularly armchairs and sofas, while maintaining its strong emphasis on ergonomics and durability. The company gained international recognition through collaborations with prominent designers, most notably Bruno Mathsson, whose work aligned perfectly with Dux’s philosophy. Iconic designs such as the Pernilla armchair series, Jetson chair, and Karin lounge chair combine sculptural modernism with exceptional seating comfort and have become classics of Scandinavian design.

Dux furniture is distinguished by its use of laminated beech frames, replaceable components, and a modular construction that extends product lifespan—an approach that was both forward-thinking and sustainable. By uniting advanced engineering with elegant, human-centered design, Dux has established itself as a key contributor to Swedish modernism.
