Design M was a Dutch lighting manufacturer active mainly from the 1980s through the 1990s, a period marked by experimentation and technological innovation in lighting design. The company specialized in modern and architectural lighting, producing floor lamps, table lamps, wall lights, and ceiling fixtures that emphasized functionality, adjustability, and a strong graphic presence.
Design M’s designs often featured clean geometric forms, articulated arms, and visible technical elements, reflecting the late-modern and high-tech design language of the time. Materials such as lacquered or brushed metal, aluminum, and glass were commonly used, and many lamps incorporated halogen and low-voltage systems, which allowed for precise, directional light and flexible use in contemporary interiors.
Rather than decorative excess, Design M focused on practical, design-led lighting suited for living spaces, offices, and studios.
