Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984) was one of the leading figures of Danish functionalism and a key architect of modern Denmark. He believed that lighting was an essential architectural element rather than a decorative afterthought, designing lamps as integral parts of the spaces they served.
Lauritzen collaborated closely with Louis Poulsen, creating lighting that prioritised clarity, comfort, and human experience. His work, including landmark projects such as Copenhagen’s Radiohuset and Kastrup Airport, is characterised by restrained forms, technical precision, and enduring functionality. Today, his designs remain benchmarks of Scandinavian modernism.
