Uno Kristiansson (1925–2019) and Östen Kristiansson (1925–2003) were Swedish designers and brothers who played an important role in shaping Scandinavian lighting and furniture design in the post-war period. Working closely together, they combined functionalist thinking with refined craftsmanship and a strong sensitivity to materials, particularly glass and wood. Their work is closely associated with the Swedish lighting manufacturer Luxus (later Östen Kristiansson AB), which Östen founded in Vittsjö in the 1950s.
The Kristiansson brothers are best known for their lighting designs, especially table lamps, pendants, and wall lamps that feature hand-blown glass shades paired with elegantly proportioned wooden bases, often in teak or rosewood. Iconic designs include the Pineapple pendant, characterized by its layered, sculptural form; the V-stand table lamps; and a series of softly glowing opal glass lamps that emphasize warmth and atmospheric light rather than glare.
Their designs reflect the core values of Scandinavian modernism: simplicity, functionality, and material honesty, combined with a sense of elegance and domestic warmth. Uno and Östen Kristiansson’s work gained international popularity during the 1950s and 1960s, particularly in Europe and North America.
