An elegant large ceramic table lamp, Model 1033, produced by Søholm Stentøj in Denmark during the 1960s. Characterised by its elongated silhouette, geometric relief decoration and richly coloured glaze, the lamp is a fine example of Danish mid-century ceramic lighting, combining sculptural proportions with the expressive qualities of glazed stoneware.

The ceramic base features a tall, slender form composed of two distinct sections. The lower cylindrical body is decorated with a repeating pattern of elongated, pointed relief elements, creating a rhythmic arrangement of vertical lines and angular shapes. These deeply defined contours are accentuated by a glossy glaze in shades of dark blue, brown and almost black, with lighter blue tones appearing towards the bottom. The variations in colour emphasise the depth of the decoration and give the surface a rich, almost architectural quality.

Rising from the decorated lower section is a long, gently tapering neck with a smoother, subtly faceted surface. Its deep blue glaze provides a restrained contrast to the more elaborate relief below, creating a balanced composition in which the different ceramic treatments complement one another. The considerable height of the base gives the lamp an elegant, elongated appearance, further emphasised by the cylindrical white fabric shade.

Søholm Stentøj was established in 1835 on the Danish island of Bornholm and became one of Denmark's notable ceramic manufacturers. During the mid-twentieth century, the company developed a distinctive range of decorative stoneware and lighting, often incorporating geometric relief patterns, experimental glazes and sculptural forms. Its production from the 1950s and 1960s is particularly appreciated for the combination of traditional ceramic craftsmanship and modern Scandinavian design principles.

With its generous height, carefully considered proportions and richly textured ceramic surface, this Model 1033 lamp makes an elegant addition to a sideboard, console or occasional table. Its combination of geometric decoration and restrained form gives it a timeless quality, equally suited to contemporary and vintage interiors.

Conditie

The lamp is in very good vintage condition, showing minor signs of age and use. There is a small chip to the inner bottom ring of the ceramic base, as shown in the photographs.
