Hugo Troeds Bjärnum

Hugo Troeds Bjärnum is a Swedish furniture manufacturer and design studio founded in 1934 in Bjärnum, Sweden, rather than an individual designer. The company became an important contributor to Swedish modern design, particularly from the 1950s onward, through its close collaboration with leading Scandinavian designers and its focus on high-quality craftsmanship combined with industrial production. Hugo Troeds is especially known for its modular storage and shelving systems, most notably the Bra Bohag and Triva systems, which offered flexible, functional solutions for modern interiors. The company also produced a wide range of sideboards, cabinets, wall units, desks, and seating, characterized by clean lines, refined proportions, and the use of materials such as teak, oak, and later laminated wood. Through collaborations with designers including Yngve Ekström, Bertil Fridhagen, and Nils Jonsson, Hugo Troeds Bjärnum helped define the look of Swedish mid-century interiors. Its furniture reflects the core values of Scandinavian modernism: functionality, adaptability, and long-lasting quality. Today, Hugo Troeds is remembered as a key manufacturer that shaped everyday modern living through intelligent design and thoughtful production.
