A pair of Scandinavian Modern table lamps, made in Sweden in the 1950s in brass and wood, with all the easy charm of a well-loved reading light. Each one rises from a round brass base through a fluted wooden stem and a flexible gooseneck arm to a bell-shaped brass shade, and side by side they lean towards each other like two friends deep in conversation.

They belong to the gentle, human strand of Swedish design that flourished after the war. It was a softer modernism than strict functionalism, built on honest materials, everyday usefulness and a little warmth in every line.
