A beautiful lounge chair designed by Folke Jansson for Wincrantz in Skövde, Sweden, during the 1960s. Characterised by its generous, enveloping form and elegantly tapered oak legs, the chair is a fine example of Scandinavian mid-century furniture design, combining sculptural upholstery with the warmth and natural character of solid oak.

The chair features a high, gently curved backrest that flows naturally into the seat, creating a continuous, inviting silhouette. Its broad, softly rounded armrests extend forward from the back, enclosing the seating area and providing a comfortable, supportive position. The generously upholstered body rests on a solid oak frame, with elegantly tapered legs and horizontal stretchers that introduce a sense of lightness to the otherwise substantial design. The warm, natural tones and visible grain of the oak provide a beautiful contrast to the richly textured upholstery.

The chair has been fully reupholstered in Pollux by Pierre Frey, a colourful wool-blend bouclé with a distinctive, almost tutti-frutti appearance. The fabric features a lively mixture of small, multicoloured yarns, creating a richly textured surface with subtle variations in tone. Shades of cream, beige, blue, green, yellow and warm pink come together in a playful yet sophisticated composition. The tactile quality of the bouclé beautifully complements the chair's rounded silhouette, while the varied colour palette introduces a contemporary character without compromising its original mid-century aesthetic.

Swedish designer Folke Jansson is particularly associated with upholstered seating that combines expressive, organic forms with functional comfort. His designs reflect the broader development of Scandinavian furniture during the postwar period, when designers increasingly explored softer silhouettes and more relaxed seating arrangements. This lounge chair exemplifies that approach, balancing generous proportions with carefully considered details and a strong emphasis on comfort.

With its sculptural form, inviting proportions and distinctive new upholstery, the chair makes an elegant addition to both contemporary and vintage interiors. The combination of Swedish mid-century design, a beautifully crafted oak frame and the richly textured Pierre Frey fabric gives it an individual character, equally suited to a living room, reading corner or carefully curated interior.
