Folke Ohlsson

Folke Ohlsson (1919–2002) was a Swedish designer and entrepreneur best known for his influential role in introducing Scandinavian modern furniture to the international market, particularly in the United States. Trained in Sweden, Ohlsson combined a strong sense of Nordic craftsmanship with an understanding of industrial production and global distribution. In the 1950s, he founded Dux Inc. USA and later Folke Ohlsson Inc., through which he helped popularize Swedish modern design abroad. Ohlsson designed furniture that emphasized comfort, functionality, and clean lines, often using teak, rosewood, and upholstered elements. Notable designs include the Model 72 and Model 73 lounge chairs, modular seating systems, and a range of sofas and armchairs developed for the American market. Folke Ohlsson’s work is characterized by understated elegance, ergonomic comfort, and a pragmatic approach to modern living.
