This eye-catching ceramic jug by Scheurich is a fine example of the expressive West German ceramics that became internationally known as “Fat Lava.” Produced during the 1970s, the jug showcases the bold glazes, sculptural forms, and rich surface textures.

The tall ceramic body features a dramatic volcanic glaze in gray and black tones, accented by vivid orange/red vertical lava-like streaks that create a striking sense of depth and movement. The textured surface contrasts beautifully with the vibrant glaze, while the sculptural handle and amphora-inspired silhouette lend the piece a strong architectural presence.

Manufactured by Scheurich, one of Germany’s leading ceramic producers of the post-war era, this jug embodies the company’s innovative approach to glazing techniques and bold decorative design. Its distinctive colour palette and tactile finish make it an eye-catching addition to both mid-century modern and contemporary interiors.
